Refinancing
Refinancing an existing mortgage can save you a substantial sum of money over the years of the loan. But you should not make your decision to refinance solely on the basis of obtaining a lower interest rate. It is important that you determine what, if any, savings or tax benefits you will receive from your refinance. In some instances, after paying lender points and closing fees, it may not be worthwhile for you to refinance. After you have receive all of the mortgage information and before committing to a lender or paying any application fees, check with your accountant about tax consequences and benefits of a refinance.
When you are ready to proceed, an attorney will be very helpful to you. Amongst other things, your attorney will review the title report, attend the closing, review and explain the closing documents and provide you with a closing statement.
